Background and professional experience

My interest in counselling and mental health developed through both personal experience and my work supporting clients in therapeutic settings. Alongside my formal training, I found attending my own psychotherapy to be a valuable and grounding experience, giving me first-hand insight into the importance of feeling genuinely heard, understood and supported within a meaningful helping relationship.
This interest deepened further during my training and practical placement at the Adolescent Centre of Excellence in Rondebosch, where I provided counselling to adolescents and young adults within a multidisciplinary team that included doctors, psychiatrists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
It was within this setting that I discovered a resonance for working with young adults navigating periods of transition and uncertainty. Much of my work involved supporting clients facing complex psychosocial challenges. My work also included caregiver support and consultation, which is often an important part of creating meaningful and sustainable support around a client.
My therapeutic approach is primarily person-centred, grounded in empathy, collaboration and curiosity about each person’s unique experience. I also draw on narrative approaches, helping clients explore their personal stories, identity and the ways they make sense of themselves and the world around them.
I believe that continued growth and openness to learning are essential parts of offering thoughtful support to clients. As part of this, I attend regular supervision with a Clinical Psychologist and remain committed to ongoing learning and reflective practice.
